The narrow arched streets of Cannobio
I painted this watercolor sketch on a quiet morning in Cannobio, drawn to the way the tall buildings frame the sky and create these wonderful pools of shadow and light. The bright yellow hotel façade caught my eye immediately - it anchors the whole composition and gives the scene its warmth.
Leaning against a wall in the narrow street, I wanted to capture that particular quality of light you get in the Italian lakes, where Swiss and Italian influences meet. The loose pen lines and transparent washes let me work fast enough to catch the feeling of the place before it changed. This is one of my favorite spots on Lake Maggiore - there's something about the vertical squeeze of these old streets opening onto the waterfront that I keep coming back to.

Prints are made with archival inks on one of two papers - either 350g Hahnemuhle German Etching paper, or 290g. Hahnemuhle Hemp, a beautifully heavy paper with rich colours. Made with 60% hemp fiber, this is an eco-friendly paper. Hemp is a highly sustainable resource, historically used for papermaking. Hahnemuhle use spring water for milling, and the production of hemp paper does not require bleaching or chloride, making the process less impactful. Postage and packing will be calculated on checkout.
